The consultant pharmacist shall provide for pharmaceutical services for developing, implementing, coordinating, supervising and reviewing all pharmaceutical issues. Services include but are not limited to:

  • Consultant pharmacist shall be responsible for rendering the following services to the facility on behalf of Med-Plus Pharmacy LTC and agrees to:

  • Review drug regimen for each resident in the facility

  • Submit a monthly review

  • Inspect medications storage and administration in the facility

  • Submit a monthly report to the facility administrator and director of nursing

  • Submit, at least quarterly, a written report to the facility on the status of the facility’s pharmaceutical service

  • Assist the facility’s administrative staff in establishing and implementing policies and procedures for the safe effective distribution, control and use of drugs; including training of facility staff

  • Review and update federal, state and local laws and regulations as they apply to skilled nursing facilities

  • Be available to respond to telephone consultation during business hours

  • Assist the facility in all aspects of improving pharmaceutical and medication related services

  • Assist facility in the accounting, destruction and reconciliation of unused controlled substances as required by law

  • Attend quarterly quality assurance, pharmacy and therapeutic, and infection control meetings

  • The consultant pharmacist acknowledges the consultant pharmacist’s obligation to obtain appropriate malpractice insurance coverage
